Bowl a Hook Tip
We all know that when you bowl a hook, it will result in a higher score, right? Here’s a tip that will get you pointed in the right direction -
When you start your approach, as usual you want to bring the ball back into swing position and keep your palm somewhat behind the ball. At the bottom of your swing you will want to release the ball and let it roll off of your thumb first.
This allows the ball to roll from the fingers and have more curve power. As the ball rolls from the fingers the hand motion should be upwards to roll rather than glide the ball on the lane. For this type of technique you must have a well fit ball that the thumb hole is not too tight.
As you normally would, bring the ball back into your swing position (or your back swing). When the ball reaches the top of your back swing, make an effort to keep your palm somewhat behind the ball.
When you approach your down swing and your release, allow the ball to come off your thumb first. This will create a somewhat of a natural curve because your ball is rolling off your fingers.
Think about that for a second -
The ball is released from your thumb first, right? It’s natural progression will then roll off your index finger, then your middle finger, ring finger and finally your pinky.
Look at your hand with your palm facing you. Now bring back your index finger, then your middle finger, ring finger and your pinky. You see that motion of your fingers?
